In Between

Last week we were in Cape Cod. Friends, family and endless games of Rumikub. Every day, we made our way to the beach - cool and turbulent, seals bobbing in the surf to escape the Great Whites on the ocean side separated by just a couple of miles and a 10-minute bike ride from the calm, warm and shallow waters of the bay side. As we were headed out Friday morning, winds from the coming storm turned the soft beach sand into small pellets attacking our shins, and the waves on both sides picked up force, providing just the tiniest glimpse into the full power of the Atlantic. We still managed to stop for one last lobster lunch, though, while overlooking a colony of seals just across the water.

This feels like my life right now; calm to turbulent with little separating the two. Adorable seals warning that sharks may be nearby, and more power underneath than I can ever comprehend. The last two months have been challenging and at times, glorious. I am here for all of it but some days - if I'm being honest, most days - I just want the warm shallow waters of the bay side. But that is only a fraction of what life has to offer, and I would miss watching the seals frolicking near the shore. So I continue to move in between and put on long pants when the winds start to blow harder.
